About Me

Hello, my name is Boris Ostrerov and I’m a contemporary painter working out of Pilsen, Chicago who makes artist panels and other art studio equipment.  I have been making painting panels for myself for years, and in 2021, I decided to go back to the drawing board and dive deep into figuring out the best materials and methods to use to make the highest quality panels.  It took a long, loooong time to research, learn and experiment with different things from the type of wood to use, to the proper way to gesso them but I was determined to achieve the highest quality for my own supports.  I wanted to be certain that my painting supports are warp resistant, and durable enough to last as long as possible.  The materials and methods I use to make your panels are the same as I use for myself.  I get satisfaction from doing things the correct way, not cutting corners, using excellent craftsmanship and creating high quality works.  Furthermore, my personal paintings require crating or storage in racks, so I also have experience making crates and storage racks, studio furniture, wall easels and more, and stretching and gessoing canvases.  I hope you look to me when you are looking to buy custom artist panels or need other art studio services.

Custom Artist Painting Panels

For my personal work I use Birch plywood, Medium Density Overlay, or Poplar for the back braces/cradles, and 1/4in MDF or Hardboard (Masoniite) for the face. However, feel free to come to me with your material preferences and design, and I will make your panels however you want me to. I can offer you suggestions based on your priorities (weight, budget, surface texture, stability, etc…)

Ask me about:

  • tondo

  • oval and shaped panels

  • thin and thick profile panels

  • panels with a lip for acrylic pouring

  • economically priced thin but archival ready-to-paint practice panels

Materials I’ve used:

  • Baltic Birch

  • Poplar

  • MDF

  • Masonite

  • Hardboard

  • Medium Density Overlay
